An opera concert with dinner in Florence puts the table and the stage in the same evening, a short walk apart. You start at Trattoria Napoleone, on Piazza del Carmine in San Frediano, with a typical Tuscan dinner. Afterwards you walk two minutes to the church on Via Santa Monaca, where professional singers perform with piano.
The menu is a proper dinner:
- Tuscan mixed appetizer with salami, fennel, Parma ham, and polenta with sausage, mushrooms or liver pâté
- A first course of your choice: carbonara with truffles, Mugello-style tortelli with wild boar, or Sienese pici with sausage sauce
- To finish, hot apple pie topped with mascarpone cream and strawberry
- Water, a coffee and a glass of the restaurant's red or white wine
Vegetarian alternatives are available for every course.
The concert gathers famous arias by Puccini, Verdi, Rossini, Mozart and Bellini, among others. The church is also worth a look for its 15th-century frescoes. The whole experience lasts around three hours, and you make your own way to the church after dinner. It is not suitable for children under 6.
