Description
A Florence Duomo tour without climbing keeps the best of the complex and spares your legs. The climbs up Brunelleschi's Dome and Giotto's Bell Tower are left out on purpose, so the 90 minutes with your private guide go on history, art and the stories behind them.
The first stop is the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo, home to the Baptistery's original doors, the Door of Paradise among them, and to the statues that once stood on the cathedral and the bell tower, like the Pietà by Michelangelo and the Maddalena by Donatello.
Next comes the Baptistery of San Giovanni, among the oldest buildings in Florence still standing, consecrated in 1059. Dante Alighieri was among the Florentines baptised here. Inside, religious mosaics on a golden background cover the dome and apse.
Once the guided part is over, you are free to see the cathedral and the Crypt of Santa Reparata by yourself; entry to both is included. The pass, the reservation and radio headsets for groups of three or more are covered too. Dress modestly for the cathedral: shoulders and knees must be covered.
