Description
This opera concert in Florence, called Voci d'Italia, is a different take on the opera concert. It lasts 75 minutes and mixes music, storytelling and projections, so the arias come with the context that makes them easy to follow.
A pianist plays for two opera soloists, and the singers are different each evening, whether soprano, tenor, mezzo-soprano or baritone. The repertoire runs through Mozart, Puccini, Verdi and Rossini, then turns Neapolitan with O Sole Mio and Funiculì Funiculà. Between pieces an English-speaking host shares stories, curiosities and behind-the-scenes insights, with some light humour.
A large LED wall shows projections that surround the performance with images, so tradition and technology share the stage. The show is held at the Teatro Nazionale Firenze, newly restored under the architect Marco Casamonti and close to Piazza della Signoria.
